Sorry about the miss yesterday had some pressing matters with Britbowl just around the corner, (by the way if you dont have plans this weekend why not pop across to Sheffields Don Valley Stadium and watch the Div II, Div I, Youth and of course Perm Finals all for the very nice price of 10 British Pounds).

So here we go with the little round up,

#New England Patriots released one of their big free agent signings on tuesday,  Jonathan Fanene is a defensive lineman they signed to shore up their run defense.  Fanene has not been able to train for the last 13 sessions due to a knee injury.  The twist in the story comes as the Patriots have cut Fanene sighting an injury clause that means he will have to pay back all of his $3.85 million signing bonus.  When asked about it coach Bill Belichick had only this to say “It just didn’t work out….Nothing to add other than that, it just didn’t work out.”

#Tennessee Titans have relased veteran Defensive tackle Shaun Smith,  Smith who signed a 3 year deal last season and was due to make $1.75 million this season. The Titans have stockpiled defensive linemen in the last 2 drafts and Smith was seen as expendable.

#Michael Vick has calmed the nerves of Eagles fans saying he will be fit for the season opener. Vick has said he will be ready for the season opener, but the real question is how many games will he be available over the whole season?

#At Cleveland Browns training camp yesterday 3rd year corner back Joe Haden was told to leave the field earlier than the rest of the Browns due to being to rough with rookie wide reciver Travis Benjamin.  He was told to leave the field after an hour of training with coach Pat Schurer shouting him off.  When asked about the incident after Coach Schurmur only apoligsed for his use of language in front of fans but refused to comment on the incident.

#A court in Annapolis, Maryland today ruled in favour of Tom Tupa over a career ending back injury suffered in a warm up.  The court ruled that Tupa’s injury happened “out of and in the course of (his) employment,” the Maryland Court of Appeals said in its 16-page opinion.  Tupa played a total of 18 seasons in the NFL but never played again after falling awkwardly during a warm up in 2005.

#Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers could miss the rest of pre-season with a foot infection.

#New Orleans Saints have announced that offensive co-ordinator Aaron Kromer will be interim head coach for the first 6 games of the season.  After that Joe Vitt will have served his suspension and will take over dutys until Sean Payton returns for next season.

#St Louis Rams picked up former 1st round pick Vernon Gholston after the New York Jets gave up on the 2008 draft pick.   Gholston who had great numbers in college has never reached the the same heights sinc going pro, although the Jets did try and convert him to a linebacker last season.

#Roger Goodell has said he believes in the replacement refs who look set to start the new season.  While talks with the NFLRA are progressing it looks like a deal wont be done in time.
