It’s an early one today and I apologise in advance if I miss a day or two over the BritBowl weekend. But here is today’s round-up.
#Tennessee Titans kick returner Marc Mariani was taken off on a stretcher during last nights pre season game against Arizona. Mariani broke his leg at the end of a punt return and head coach Mike Munchak said Mariani broke both the tibia and fibula in his lower left leg in a gruesome injury that trainers had covered with a pressure wrapping by the time Munchak got out to check on the returner. The game finished with the Titans winning 32-27 over the Cardinals. Jake Locker who was only named starting QB this week threw 2 touchdowns and 134 yards.
#The trade winds are blowing in Indianapolis as team owner Jim Irsay has said the team are considering trading a high draft pick in order to acquire a player. Irsay wouldn’t say which player the Colts could be after.
#Cleveland Browns sources are adamant that Trent Richardson will be ready for the opening game of the season against the Eagles.
#Joe Flacco threw two touchdowns in the Ravens 48-17 win over Jacksonville Jaguars. Flacco played nearly three-quarters and completed 27 of 36 passes for a total of 266 yards.
# Not to be out done Aaron Rodgers rushed for two touchdowns in Green Bay’s win over Cincinnati. The Packers won 27-13 with Rodgers rushing for a of total 52 yards, Rogers also threw 12 of 22 attempts for 154 yards and 1 interception. Rodgers left the game at halftime with the Packers leading 17-6.
#In sad news today Hall of Famer Steve Van Buren died aged 91. Van Buren a running back who led the Philadelphia Eagles to NFL titles in 1948 and 1949. Van Buren wore #15 and the number was retired by the Eagles after Van Buren retired in 1952. He finished his career with 5,860 rushing yards and 77 touchdowns in his 8 year career. Van Buren died of pneumonia and is survived by three daughters.
