Further to a piece we published earlier this week, our reporters have been made aware of the English Ice Hockey Association’s response in the dispute over the eligibility of Matt Selby in the playoff game between Coventry ENL Blaze and Deeside Dragons.
The League’s response from Ken Taggart, Chairman of the EIHA was as follows;
“Coventry did query the status of Selby prior to the 1st game and I now have that email. There is no blame to Coventry as they did consult and it was verified they could ice the 17 year old player as he was a Junior. This was against the Rules of Competition and I accept complete responsibility.”
As Coventry Blaze had told us, they were told that Selby was cleared to play. But as the EIHA confirm, Selby was iced ‘against the Rules of Competition’.
Many thanks to Coventry, Deeside and the EIHA for their cooperation in investigating this story.
